SHADES OF GREEN: 10 THINGS YOU PROBABLY DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT THIS MILITARY RESORT ON DISNEY PROPERTY1/6/2021 “What’s Shades of Green?” is a question we hear often after suggesting it as a hotel option to other military families. So let’s get that out of the way first:
Shades of Green is the only on-property resort exclusively for military members and their families. 10. It’s Really Close To Disney’ Polynesian Resort So close, in fact, that most people tend to walk across to Poly to catch the Monorail, or their bus transportation, as Disney Resorts buses run every 5-15 minutes versus the Shades of Green’s hourly schedule. 9. It Has Its Own Bus Schedule Shades of Green has its own buses that transport guests to the parks. However, they do not provide transportation to and from the airport, like Disney’s Magical Express. 8. There is Onsite Dining Shades of Green guests are not eligible to take advantage of the Disney Dining Plan, however there are many options throughout the resort. 7. There’s an AAFES Exchange On-Site And yes, it’s tax free with a wide variety of items available! Even if you’re not staying at Shades of Green, but find yourself needing some essentials, it’s worth stopping by. Last visit I needed a new charger and picked up a super cute Disney t-shirt for only $14! 6. Your Military Star Card Is Accepted There Another great bonus! 5. They Have Their Own Take On The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique It’s not quite the same experience, but close enough! 4. The Rooms Are Huge If you’ll be spending a lot of time in your room or at the resort, this is something to consider! 3. There are 2 PGA Golf Resorts Close By Shades of Green is nestled between two amazing golf resorts. If you love golf, this alone is a reason to stay at Shades of Green. 2. There are Plenty of Family Activities Just like Disney Resorts tend to have many family friendly activities onsite, so does Shades of Green! 1. It Books up Fast, so Plan Ahead It books REALLY fast because it’s a fantastic option for military families. I have gotten really lucky a few times for last minute trips and booking a day or two in advance. Of course, don’t chance it! But if you’re flexible in your trip, keep checking back! Be mindful of any cancellation policies if you book other accommodations and space at Shades of Green happens to open. If you are wondering if you are eligible for the Disney Military Salute Discount Ticket program, look no further! Below you will find a handy layout of who is eligible for this amazing discount. Please feel free to share this post with your fellow military family!
Are you one of the many who served your country in the US Military but did not retire?
With their "Salute to Our Veterans" Program, Shades of Green accepts reservations from non-retired US military veterans for stays in January and September. Shades of Green the military resort located on Walt Disney World property began this offer for non-retired Vets in September 2010. (Current military members and retirees are eligible for the Disney Armed Forces Salute) Eligibility Requirements are:
Disney Announced on March 28, 2019 that strollers and wagons will undergo a new policy change for all Disney Parks, including Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Stroller Wagons will be banned from the parks as of May 1st 2019. The new policy states that strollers shall be no larger than 31 inches wide and 52 inches long. The new changes are said to ease congestion in the parks, along with helping guest flow throughout the parks according to Disney. Furthermore, Disney has also announced that dry and loos ice will also be banned from bringing into the parks as of March 28, 2019.
